The move to Garching in May 2024 marked a significant change for SAP and its employees. While the transition presented some initial challenges, such as longer commutes, the new office has proven to be great - I am sure most will agree!
One of the unexpected benefits of the move has been the opportunity to prioritize my fitness. The longer commute has encouraged me to cycle to work (instead of spending about the same time in over-crowded public transport), providing a healthy and sustainable way to start my day. Additionally, the office itself offers a gym and changing rooms, making it easy to maintain an active lifestyle.
One day in autumn this year, I pushed my limits by running to the office, covering a distance of 33 kilometers. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I'm considering making it an annual tradition.
Another highlight of the new office is the outdoor calisthenics park. This has been a great way to incorporate strength training into my routine, especially during the warmer months.
The move to Garching has also had a positive impact on our productivity and collaboration. The modern meeting rooms have enhanced our work environment an we can’t wait to use get our new dedicated podcast studio. We're excited to utilize these spaces to create high-quality content for our Labs Talk podcast and other media.
Moreover, the office canteen has become a popular gathering place for employees, providing a convenient and enjoyable dining experience. The opportunity to socialize with colleagues over lunch has strengthened team bonds and fostered a positive work culture.
While the office was relatively quiet in 2023, with many team members working remotely, I'm looking forward to a more bustling environment in the coming year. The arrival of new colleagues to our team will bring fresh perspectives and opportunities for collaboration. I'm also excited to continue my cycling commute and take advantage of the office's amenities.
