Codefreeze Day 5: Backcountry Skiing, Coding, and Record-Breaking Sauna Sessions
A Day of Contrasts at Codefreeze
Day five at Codefreeze was a real mix of the unexpected, the adventurous, and the downright fun. It started with a rather unusual task: preparing an NFT drop for a colleague's panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Definitely not your typical morning routine! Luckily I still managed my usual morning workout and another invigorating dip in the ice.
I was a bit surprised to see 1 degree Celsius on the weather report for Northern Finland. With all the snow still around, I was expecting it to be colder. Turns out, it's the same temperature back home in Munich! This made me a bit worried about icy conditions for our planned ski trip.
But the weather didn't deter us. I joined Aki Salmi, one of the founders of Codefreeze, for a longer backcountry ski trip. Despite the relatively warm temperatures, the snow was surprisingly packed, making for excellent gliding. We enjoyed a beautiful tour through the stunning surroundings of Suomen Latu Kilopaa. Today we were able to watch some rare and shy birds - the Ptarmigan - and I was able to capure one of these hard to spot white birds on camera:
Back at the hotel, it was a quick turnaround to get ready for the Labs Talk livestream. We discussed what’s coming up in 2025, sharing insights from both an analyst’s perspective and our plans for Labs Talk. (Check out the recording if you missed it!)
The afternoon was dedicated to hands-on sessions exploring Figma, Canva, and the AI code editor Cursor AI. In Canva, we designed an NFT image asset for Codefreeze – this year’s special NFT is all about mastering the art of roasting marshmallows over an open fire. In Figma, we dove into frames, interactions, and animations to get a solid grasp of this powerful design tool. With Cursor AI, we attempted to build a conference website and were very close to pulling session data from our Wekan board using JavaScript. We ran into some trouble with login tokens, so we didn't quite finish, but we learned a ton in the process.
But the day wasn't over yet! A large group of us headed for another sauna session, going for multiple rounds. One of the attendees even brought his drone, capturing some amazing footage of us ice bathing – with about 10 people in the ice at once! And to top it all off, we broke the record for the number of people crammed into the tiny Ekin Kammi sauna – a whopping 12 people!
Oh and I forgot we took a group picture as for some tomorrow is already the final day. So we wanted everybody to have a chance to be on the photo! Thx again to James for bringing your drone!
